At a time when so much of the recording process has moved into the digital world and emulations continue to sound better and better, we believe there is still something special about working with well-designed hardware. Reaching for a knob, pushing a switch, and shaping sound by hand can make the creative process feel more immediate and intuitive.
With proper care, most professional studio equipment from the past 50 years will still be making sound in another 50.
Ageing Gracefully
Good studio equipment is built to last, but decades of heat-cycling, damp storage, and poor previous repairs can begin to add up. Solder joints crack, components drift, capacitors dry out (or leak), connectors oxidize, and mechanical parts wear.
We spend all day with vintage gear and can identify age-related issues, address known failure points where appropriate, and recommend preventative work when it makes sense. All with the goal of keeping the equipment you depend on reliable and sounding its best.
Our approach
We have many years’ experience diagnosing and repairing faults, performing calibrations and modifications, and generally improving and maintaining all sorts of analog and digital recording gear for our clients. We work on thru-hole as well as surface-mount designs and are well-equipped to repair burned, damaged, and broken PCBs, restoring life to equipment that has suffered physical damage, catastrophic component failures, or poor previous repair attempts. Where parts need to be replaced, we use high-quality components chosen to suit the original design and provide long-term reliability.
TESTING AND CALIBRATION
In the world of professional audio, details matter.
We are well-equipped to verify frequency response, distortion, noise, crosstalk, and more on every repair that comes across the bench here.
We are also able to offer printed test reports to confirm specs for demanding applications or to provide peace-of-mind and ease the stressful process of buying and selling equipment.
Modifications &
custom work
In addition to repair we are also occasionally called upon to design analog and digital circuits and PCBs, often to solve a unique problem or replace unobtainable components. Have a particular project in mind? Contact us and let’s talk about it.
