Hands-down the nicest machine to come out of the 80’s cassette multi-track craze (sorry Tascam). Made at the peak of AKAI’s production quality, this is the sister machine to the legendary MPC-60 (bonus points if you are buying it to use alongside one!). Standalone 6-channel mixer with EQ and sends, two surprisingly great-sounding mic preamps, 4 vibey tape tracks with full varispeed and a nice autolocator built into the transport section. Freshly repaired here - new tact switches throughout, a clean and service of all of the panel controls, and a fresh PSU rebuild with the remaining caps testing good throughout. It’s running strong and feels super snappy and responsive to use.
